Position Overview The Malco Group is seeking an Industrial Designer with a focus on innovative problem solving for it’s Worksite Solutions Category. The Industrial Designer will be focused on the Veto Pro Pac business, which is known for rugged dependability, thoughtful organization, and innovative features and is committed to creating authentic tool bag solutions.
In this role, you will bring creative problem solving, commitment to the end user, and unique design solutions that add real-world value to our customers. You will work on integrating both engineered hard goods and cut-and-sew soft goods, collaborating closely with other designers, end users, product management, and sales, taking concepts from initial idea to production-ready.
With a focus on hard good components for tool bags and other worksite solutions, this role requires an extreme attention to detail, design expertise in molded parts and processes, and an engineering mind with a designer’s eye.
Key Responsibilities
Lead the design and development of projects from concept through execution, ensuring alignment with brand and business objectives
Translate consumer insights, market trends, and brand strategy into differentiated product design solutions.
Generate and refine product concepts through sketching, 3D modeling, and physical prototyping.
Develop and document factory-ready design specifications for new product concepts.
Collaborate closely with factory development teams to realize concepts into prototypes.
Create compelling presentations and visual storytelling to communicate design intent to cross-functional teams and leadership.
Participate in design research activities, including consumer testing, functional analysis, durability testing, and competitive benchmarking.
Contribute to the development of design processes to increase efficiency within Product Development.
Plan and participate in photoshoots to ensure product is presented and merchandised correctly.
Education/Experience
7+ years of relevant experience in Industrial Design
Bachelor's degree in Industrial Design
Expert level design feasibility knowledge for production-ready designs with good materials understanding.
Strong 2D design skills including essential sketching and proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite.
Expert level 3D design skills with CAD modeling in SolidWorks
Good communication and presentation skills
Demonstrated ability to work in team environments
Comfortable with presenting in front on a crowd or on video (product videos)
Preferred
Experience working with widespread team over Zoom or Teams
Close to Norwalk, CT to meet in person as needed
Experience traveling to factories in Asia
Experience on Product Photoshoots
Tool bag design experience
Personal connection to the trades for user research and testing
