Team of ICC Students Heading to Kosovo

December 17, 2021

Since 2015 the ICC has been partnered with the Kosovo Leadership Academy in Mitrovica, Kosovo. Cedarville University Graduate and prior Alumnus of the Year, Nadine Hennesey, has been serving in the Balkans for nearly 20 years and when her K-12 academy was preparing to open she had done an online search for "innovation curriculum" that she could source to help support their efforts. The ICC was one of her top search results and then she realized that the ICC was partnered with her alma mater.

"When Nadine visited the ICC in the spring of 2015, we just knew that this was a place we had to visit and get involved," said Jim Stevenson, President and Co-founder of the ICC. "The mission and goals of the school were so clear and closely aligned with what we try to do that it was just irresistible. We traveled to Kosovo that fall and I've been back six times since."

Stevenson also serves on the KLA school board.

Shortly after the ICC's first visits, the firm began organizing student trips to get involved in the KLA classrooms and to engage the culture. Over the years multiple teams have visited short term and long term, and there is even an ICC/CU graduate working fulltime at the school currently.

For 2022, the ICC is planning on returning to the KLA with two separate teams, on two separate trips.

The first trip is scheduled for the ICC/CU spring break during the first week of March, and the second team will visit mid May.

These teams will be part of regional creativity, design thinking and science fair workshops that unfortunately got postponed during the pandemic, but are now ready to go. Teams will meet regularly prior to the trip to learn about the history, recent events, cultural differences, and to prepare workshop content for the trips.

"It is so rewarding to support the fantastic teachers and work that is going on at the KLA, and to experience this amazing culture...we are hoping that this is a transformational trip for all of the ICC students who are going," said Stevenson. "The Kosovars are so hospitable and it's been a blessing to connect with students and their families over the years...and I would be remiss if I did not mention the amazing coffee and regional food. It is a young and growing culture in an ancient and mysterious place."
